Professional Development Committee
Workplace Education Programs
Our Professional Development committee offers a variety of courses throughout the year at different locations throughout the Annapolis Valley. These programs are brought to you at no cost. All Workplace Education programs are fully funded by the Federal Government. The Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education has been a valuable partner of the AVCC in making these programs possible. As the full cost for participants is funded under this program, in return, we expect a commitment to attend at least 80% of the sessions. You do not need to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce to participate; however, you do need to be employed.
New Intake Form Requirement
As of February 1, 2019 all Workplace Education participants must complete a mandatory intake form. This is a federal requirement and all host organizations across the country must abide by these regulations. The intake form requests your SIN number along with other personal information. Given that these courses are funded by the federal government, they request the information for course evaluation purposes.
AVCC is responsible for collecting this information on behalf of the federal government. Upon your registration, we will provide more information about this process. You will complete the form on paper and submit it during your first class, after which the AVCC will securely transfer your information to the government and shred the paper copies of your form.
Our Spring courses are currently in session. We will be offering a suite of courses beginning in the Fall. Our Project Team will meet in August to determine the courses for the Fall Session. Our course selection is driven by participant demand. If there is a particular course that you or your employees would like to see, please get in touch with us, and we will try to meet your workplace education needs.
Potential courses could include (but are not limited to): Internet Marketing, Marketing Content, Sage Accounting, QuickBooks Accounting, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, Communications, Financial Management, Strategic Planning, Change Management, WordPress, and more!

AVCC will provide member-driven, relevant professional development that will improve business performance.
The PD Committee meets at least twice a year to plan Professional Development sessions through the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education. They also attend the openings, mid-points and closings of these sessions.
The committee is also working on a program of workshops or lunch time info sessions on subjects of interest to businesses in the Annapolis Valley.
